ESTABLISH ROUTINES FROM THE FIRST DAY try to keep to the same routine each class. Each teacher will have their own strategies, but ask if you need help.
  1. COMING IN
  2. GETTING QUIET
  3. CHANGING ACTIVITY
  4. ATTRACTING ATTENTION
  5. CLEARING UP
  6.
LESSON PLAN – GETTING TO KNOW YOU
You need: a puppet (Cookie or one from another book) or just a toilet roll with a face !!
A soft ball or bean bag
                   Portrait worksheet
                   Coloured pencils
A story book with lots of characters.

As the children come into the class have Hello song “Simple Songs” playing

  1. Sit the children on the floor in a circle.

2. Introduce yourself -  Hello, I’m ……

3. The puppet introduces itself.  Hello, I’m ………

4. The children introduce themselves, one by one.

5. The Hello Song ESL Super Simple Songs (Youtube)

6. Introduce yourself again Hello, I’m…..  and say
Hello…(+name) to one of the students and throw the
ball/bean bag to them. They continue by doing the same,
introducing themselves, throwing the ball (VERY gently!!)
and saying Hello to another student etc..etc.

7. Give the children a blank A4  with I’m …… printed on the bottom (or photocopy the attached )and ask them to
draw a picture of themselves. Encourage them to fill the page
and not do tiny little drawings. This is a good time to test to
see what colours they know, as they are drawing.

8. Students write their names, or you do it if  they can’t, on
    their drawings, after I’m ...

9. Show the story to the children and introduce all of the characters. The children say hello to all of the characters in turn. Then you can read the story!

10. If there is still time, play the “Guess who” game – one student covers his/her eyes and another student says Hello
The first student has to guess who spoke.

11. Play the Goodbye song ESL Super Simple Songs (Youtube)
