Lesson
plan
1.
Greet
the children as they come in and sit them where you want them to sit.
Establish where coats and bags go.
2.
Introduce
yourself, and ask the students names. Learn them quickly, go over
Them again if necessary and put sticky labels on kids
jumpers with their names. Have a soft
ball or rolled up paper and throw it to one student, saying your name and
theirs. They gently throw it to another student and say their name and the
other students name . Do this till you and they know the names. Offsite not
quite so necessary as they already know each other.
3.
Play Simon says with classroom commands.(establish a mime
for each one)

4.
Dictate
classroom objects (pencil, rubber, pen, pencil sharpener, glue etc) and the
colour. Students draw the appropriate object in the correct colour and number
the drawings as they go along. This will help you check afterwards.
You say for example Number 1 is a green pencil case. After
a couple of examples, get the students to dictate instead of you. Have some
flashcards on hand to prompt them.
5.
Give
out folders and exercise books. Name the folders with sticky labels.
6.
On
the first page of the exercise book get students to do a self portrait and
write some simple sentences about themselves. (Elicit on the board first)
7.
Establish
a routine for packing up and silence.
8.
Sit
and “chat” to them till the end of the lesson. Ask what they like, what sports
they play, how many brothers and sisters etc. Encourage them to ask you
questions. Don’t expect questions to be grammatically correct.
